On July 30:

1944 — James S. Jackson was born. Jackson has worked toward a psychology responsive to national mental health issues and to the special problems of minorities, urban youth, and elderly individuals. He was a founder of the Black Students Psychological Association (1969). In 1983, Jackson won the first APA Distinguished Award for an Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the Public Interest.

1955 — Lee J. Cronbach and Paul E. Meehl's article "Construct Validity in Psychological Tests" was published in Psychological Bulletin.

1974 — Federal "freedom of choice" legislation (Public Law 93-363) was signed by President Nixon. The law removed the requirement for physician referral or supervision of psychological services paid for by the Federal Employees Health Benefit Act. Clinical psychologists achieved parity with other providers of health services for 8.5 million federal employees nationwide.
