1809 — Thomas S. Kirkbride was born. Kirkbride was one of the founders of the American Psychiatric Association (1844). His book On the Construction, Organization, and General Arrangements of Hospitals for the Insane (1847) guided the design of progressive mental institutions for decades.
1968 — Norman Anderson's article "Likableness Ratings of 555 Personality-Trait Words" was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
1984 — The antipsychotic drug Orap (pimozide; Gate) was approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Pimozide acts to block dopamine receptors in the brain.
