On August 10:

1901 - Noble H. Kelley was born. Kelley helped to inaugurate the graduate programs in clinical psychology at the University of Louisville and Southern Illinois University. In 1950 he began 20 years of service as the executive officer of the American Board of Professional Psychology. APA Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions, 1974.

1910 - Angus Campbell was born. Campbell was known for his research on voting behavior. His book The American Voter greatly influenced American political science from a psychological perspective. He also studied racial attitudes and the subjective quality of life. APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, 1974.

1922 - The Council for Exceptional Children was founded.

1940 - Representatives of the APA, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Society of Experimental Psychologists, Psychometric Society, American Association for Applied Psychology, and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues met to discuss psychology's response to the war in Europe. The later Conference on Morale had its beginnings in this meeting.

1965 - The Handbook of Clinical Psychology, edited by Benjamin Wolman, was first published.

1990 - At his last public appearance, B. F. Skinner was presented with the first APA Citation for Lifetime Contributions to Psychology and delivered a spirited address to the audience at the APA convention. Skinner died of leukemia 8 days later.
