1836 — Darwin returned to England on the Beagle after a 5-year voyage.

1918 — Richard L. Solomon was born. Solomon's research in how the nervous system relates the organism to its environment included fundamental studies of discrimination, word recognition thresholds, and conditioning. APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, 1966; American Psychological Foundation Distinguished Teaching in Experimental Psychology Award, 1988.

1956 — The Iowa Psychological Association was incorporated.
