1893 — Edmund Clark Sanford's Course in Experimental Psychology was published. The text was one of the first laboratory manuals in American psychology.
1906 — George I. Sanchez was born. Sanchez was a specialist in mental measurements and bilingual education and a critic of culture bias in the intelligence tests of the day. He has been called the founder of Chicano psychology.
1937 — Joseph B. Rhine's book on parapsychology, New Frontiers of the Mind: The Story of the Duke Experiments, was published.
1941 — The Institute of Psychology was formed at the University of Ottawa. This was an important step in establishing independent departments of psychology in Canadian universities. Twelve students initially enrolled in Ottawa's Institute of Psychology.
1956 — The first meeting of the Section of Experimental Psychology and Animal Behavior of the International Union of Biological Sciences was held at the Palais Universitaire, Strasbourg, France. American psychologists Frank A. Geldard, Clarence H. Graham, and Herbert S. Langfeld attended.
1983 — The District of Columbia passed a city ordinance requiring extension of hospital staff privileges to licensed clinical psychologists. Although some states had laws allowing hospitals to give (or deny) privileges to psychologists, this strongly worded law mandated hospital privileges.
